Diet Reviews

So, you’re using this site to learn more about healthy eating and how to maintain a healthy diet. My hope is to provide you with tips and strategies to modify your existing diet so you can achieve your long term goal of great health through better eating and exercise.

But in the short term what you may need or want is a weight loss diet program that will help you kick start the process. You need to find something that incorporates the principles of healthy eating and that will result in weight loss.

You may have heard about diet pills but wonder if they’re safe. Some of them may be safe but I’m not going to recommend that route. Unless you are desperately overweight and your health care professional recommends that, it's not a good diet plan.

And not just because I’m afraid they may not be safe but because I don’t want to structure my long-term success around taking pills of any kind. That just does not fit with my ideas about health.

Better to find some kind of healthy diet program that involves all food groups accompanied by regular exercise. I firmly believe this is the only true, and definitely best, route to life-long healthy eating and weight maintenance. It may not be the fastest route but it is the healthiest. That’s why I called this site Healthy Diet for Life.

While losing weight may be your immediate goal, don’t shortchange yourself on great health. It’s just not necessary. There are many well-structured and healthy diets available for you to take advantage of. The problem is choosing which healthy weight loss plan fits best with your lifestyle and food tastes.

Evaluate Yourself for the Healthy Weight Loss Programs

Before you try to adopt a diet program, you should ask yourself if you are equipped for a particular program. Does your lifestyle allow for the change? Do you really want to lose weight? Are you willing to do all that it takes to lose weight?

There is a difference between wanting to lose weight and committing yourself to lose that weight. You also need to have the proper mindset. Without this, you would eventually fail. Your mindset plays a crucial role in your success with any important goal in life.

Select a diet

I have to say that the folks at eDiets have done a great job of simplifying that task. There is a free Diet Profile that you can fill out that will tell you what types of diets will be most suitable based on your lifestyle and food preferences. (There is also a fitness profile that will help you set up an exercise routine based on your interests and time availability.)

You’ll answer questions about your current weight, height and fitness level. As well you can indicate what ingredients are of most concern to you and what your greatest food weakness is.

eDiets will provide a list of the best three matches given the information provided. You can sign up immediately and start following the plan of your choice.

They even have their own Weight-Loss Plan which acknowledges that everyone is different. As I have written throughout this site, you have to educate yourself as to the healthiest choices and then combine those with your personal preferences. This is the only route to long term, healthy, successful weight loss.

The eDiets plan allows you to do just that. It’s very flexible. Weekly menus deliver balanced nutrition and are based around your food preferences, excluding foods you do not wish to eat. In addition, for those who do not like to cook, or just don’t have time, there is the convenience plan which includes east-to-prepare foods and healthy options for eating on the run. But there is also a recipe option with quick meals that can easily be scaled to feed a family and the shopping list is provided.

Alternatively you can simply browse the plans and select the one that most appeals. Consider these factors before selecting one.

Criteria of a Healthy Diet Program

-It should consist of a detailed food, activity, and behavior modification plan.

-It should be the ideal plan, one that considers all factors that could affect your success in losing weight.

-It should have considered the diet with emphasis on nutrition, activity, or exercise and the proper mindset to achieve success.

-It should offer meals that meet proper nutrition and diet guidelines. The diet plan should promote health as well as weight loss. You cannot sacrifice your health just so you could lose weight.

-It must not only reduce fat but calories as well.

-It should include an exercise plan of more than three hours a week. If a weight loss program claims that you do not have to exercise or modify your activities in order to lose weight, you should seriously tread caution with pursuing this program.

-It should be established and a well-supported weight loss program. You should check whether there are people who could testify that the program definitely works. Check the success rate of the program.

-It should not promote starvation as a form of diet but should show you how to eat healthy.

-It should promote eating less and moving more.

With so many doctors formulating their own theories in losing weight, there’s little surprise on the sheer volume of ways and means to lose the unwanted fat from our body.

Weight loss programs typically focus on the following three areas:

-Food groups consumed

-Quantity of food consumed

-Exercise

If you’re planning to enroll yourself or your loved ones into a weight loss program, be sure you consider these factors before taking the first step to get in shape.

You're own needs and lifestyle will dictate ultimately which diet is best suited to you.

Consider the following:

Personal Goals

Remember to set your goals, whether you measure it in inches or by the pound. In setting goals, make sure you never overdo it. Always put health before aesthetics.

Goals will set you in the right direction, and ultimately, your goals will be your benchmark. Ask yourself every time, what exactly do I want? Where am I now? What more should I do?

Be specific with your goals. Merely saying that you want to lose weight is not enough. This is an immeasurable goal. A better goal would be to say that you want to lose 10 pounds within 4 weeks.

The latter is a measurable goal and is essential to gauging the success of your diet. Even if your ultimate goal is to lose 50 pounds, it’s a good idea to break that goal down into manageable targets.

Ease of Implementation and Feasibility

Choose a weight loss plan that you can actually do, but make sure that you won’t settle for a program that is too easy. Consider something that would fit your routine and your activity level.

Take your weight loss plan as a challenge. The rewards are sweeter with something you actually worked hard for.

Look for a weight loss plan that can be accommodated by your budget. You’re trying to lose some inches, not your family fortune.
